I've also organized these video samples by style on this site with brief comments as to video quality and sound quality. Some were simply recorded with handheld video cameras in the audience and some were done more professionally with closeups and good camera work. Stage lighting of the concerts makes some of them hard to make out details of the musicians such as what amplifiers, etc. are being used.

Please feel free to view to several to get a flavor of the range of sounds possible. If you want a broader selection of better sounding samples, let me suggest visiting the Sound Files page for studio recordings. There is quite a bit of variation based on the artist's playing styles, individual violins with different woods and transducer bridges, and amplifiers or signal processing equipment used in the recordings.

Jazz

Solo Violin

  • Watch an Andrea Alsted Video! Opening solo from Denmark's 2010 Melodi Gran Prix awards show. Solo starts about 10 seconds into show and is just a minute long but it beautifully showcases her playing and the sound of her StringAmp equipped Jordan Violin. -Professional sound and video.

  • Watch a Chris Garrick Video! Hand held camera work in an empty church of Chris Garrick playing the Prelude to Bach's Cello Suite #1 at cello pitch on a seven string Jordan violin -Video is dark and a bit shaky at times, but sound is good.

  • Watch an Ezechiel N’tsai Video! Eugene N’tsai playing a nine string Jordan violin - Nicely shot video putting a nine string violin through its entire range in several genres. If you were curious what a nice string violin can do in the hands of a skilled violinist, this is must see video!

Celtic Fiddling

  • Watch a Tempest Video! Nicely shot video and the sound quality is good making me think it's a mix from                                                       the PA. Nice closeups of a tight band of seasoned pros

Blues

  • Watch a Walking Spanish Video! Nicely shot full band video and the sound quality is good making me think it's a mix from the PA. High energy song with great 45 second long blues violin solo by Tom Gunterman on seven string violin starting 1 minute and 38 seconds into the video, but you'll want to hear the whole song because the band is great.

World Music

  • Watch an Ahimsa Video! Nicely produced video featuring S. Radhakrishna on a one of a kind Jordan Double violin in Indian/world fusion band with nicely recorded live sound.

Progressive Rock/Fusion

  • Watch an Azigza Video! Not a high-res video and the sound is just captured live in the room, but it does have some close-ups and Azigza was an innovative progressive/trance/world fusion band.

  • Watch a Dissolve Video! Not a high-res video and the sound is just captured live in the concert hall, Dissolve is an pyshedelic electronic/trance band

Acoustic Rock

  • Watch a Katy Lawrence Quartet Video! Live video of the quartet I play with shot at Armando's 2/28/10. There's a bit of background chatter , but the live sound is still pretty good and the video is nicely done from a tripod.

  • Watch a Katy Lawrence Quartet Video! Live video of the quartet I play with shot at Armando's 2/28/10. There's a bit of background chatter , but the live sound is still pretty good and the video is nicely done from a tripod.

  • Watch a Katy, Dell & John Video! Live video of the trio I play with shot at Winterhawk Winery 10/24/09. There's a fair amount of background chatter as this is more of a community event/wine tasting than a strict concert setting, but the live sound is still pretty good and the video is nicely done from a tripod.

  • Watch a Downtown Possum Video! Not a high-res video and the violinist is not well lit but the sound quality is good for being captured live. Lots of effects on the violin with nice fills and solos

  • Watch a Semyon Kobialka Video! I know he's not playing an electric cello in this professionally produced video that accompanies the studio album track, but if you watch the whole video you'll see why I'm glad he's playing a cheap acoustic cello this time! Some really innovative cello pizzicato work and clever songwriting.
